Biography

Richard Lindner (1901–1978) was a German-American Post-War painter whose style incorporated elements of cubism and figurative symbolism. Lindner’s work is seductive and mysterious, expressing dark metaphors through bold juxtapositions of color. Lindner developed a visual vocabulary of deeply personal and symbolic figures including Wunderkind (child prodigies), women in corsets, and portrait caricatures. Placed in the geometrically abstracted space of his canvases, Lindner’s figures are provocative and enticing.
