Biography

Joseph Wiliam Arcier, 63, a retired vice president of the Craig-Craely Clothing Manufacturing firm of New York, died Thursday in Cooperstown, N.Y., while visiting there. Memorial services will.be conducted in New Canaan at a time 'to be announced'. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, Mr. Arcier began his career in 1921 with the R. H. Macy company and also worked for the Bestform company and the International Latex Corporation. He retired from Craig-Craely in 1966. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts in London. Survivors are his wife, Mrs, Caroline Calvert Barlow Arcier; his mother, Mrs. Dora Arcier of Cliffside Park, N.J.; and a brother, Charles Arcier of Cuddibackville, N.Y.
*NOTE: Craig-Craely was a manufacturer of fashion apparel, and Arcier's role may have been in advertising. His election to the American Watercolor Society while engaging in full-time industrial employment speaks volumes about his talent and the recognition he was accorded.
Joseph William Arcier was married to Caroline Calvert Barlow and was buired in his wife's family plot in Hartwick Union Cemetery, Otsego County (New York). Mrs. Arcier was listed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1968 among the Donors of Money and Securities, but nothing more is known of her life and contribution to her husband's career.
