Biography

Gail Symon Hicks began painting at the age of 4 and at 12 one of her paintings was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her earliest works were figurative and she painted many portraits. She later became interested in landscape and gardens. She helped to establish Silvermine and became the director in 1943. After 20 years of painting, she retired to marry Mr. Hicks, a Norwalk manufacturer. She won many local awards.
