Biography

Sickels, who initially worked as a staff artist for the Associated Press, was an illustrator and cartoonist best known for the comic Skorchy Smith and for his masterful use of line. He did classified work for the Army and Navy during WWII. After WWII, he became a freelance illustrator and also did American historical subjects, often for Life Magazine.
