Biography

Ted Giavis, born in Lowell, MA and a long time resident of Palm Harbor, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at the age of 88. Mr. Giavis lived in Westport, CT before his retirement to Florida. A commercial artist, Mr. Giavis began his career with a scholarship at the Massachusetts College of Art. He became a member of the prestigious Society of Illustrators. He was associated with Rawl Studios of Manhattan where he counted among his clients many of the top Fortune Five Hundred companies. His two page parade scene for Goodyear advertising, which appeared in a 1960 issue of the Saturday Evening Post received international acclaim. It was recognized thirty seven years later when Dr. Chris Mullen of the International University of Brighton School of Arts and Communications, compiled a list of the top twelve American realist illustrators included Mr. Giavis-a list which included Norman Rockwell. He last exhibited at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center. He is survived by his wife, Theano and son, Andrew; his sister, Catherine of Wabash, IN and brother Vasilios Giavis of Lowell, MA.
