From FB "Exit 17 Residents and Ex-Residents Westport, CT" post reply by Dory Boland Skemp:
The painting is by my mother (Dory Skemp) and she did win a prize and I've been searching for the newspaper article with accompanying photo. Will keep searching. My mother was Dory French Boland and she signed her paintings as Dory Boland. I am Dory Boland Skemp (Staples '61) formerly married to Eric Tate Skemp (Staples '58), stepson of the painter Robert Oliver Skemp and stepbrother to Jenny Skemp O'Grady and brother to San Tate Skemp Crandall. Are you still with me? My mother painted this while the Throughway was being built over the Saugatuck River in maybe 1956???? About 20 years ago (or more) Ann Bernard Pfeiffer (Staples '56?) was visiting me in Bristol and I had (still have) way too many paintings, books, stuff. So I gave Ann the painting who kindly gave it to the Westport Historical Society on my behalf. At the time I said I would forward her the newspaper article which I then couldn't find but which I found eventually when I moved from Bristol to Warren. Now it is "misplaced" and not lost. And I believe that Bob Skemp was actually one of the judges that gave my Mom the prize. Anyway, this is exciting that it has popped up again in Westport where it belongs. Such a iconic Westport scene for those of us old enough to remember when the Throughway (as it was called then) was being built.
